WHY MALTA?

A Stable EU Business Base

Malta has been a member of the European Union since 2004 and has built a reputation as a resilient and business-oriented jurisdiction. Its strategic location, EU access, professional infrastructure, and regulatory framework make it a practical choice for entrepreneurs and international investors.

The country has continued to attract positive attention from international rating agencies and remains known for a stable business environment, particularly for companies seeking a European operating or holding structure.

Malta applies a corporate tax rate of 35% on company profits. However, in certain cases, shareholders may be entitled to claim a tax refund, which can reduce the overall effective tax rate to 5%. This makes Malta an attractive option for international business and investment structures.

Malta can also be highly appealing for holding company structures through its participation exemption regime. In simple terms, where a Maltese holding company meets the relevant participation holding conditions, income such as qualifying dividends or capital gains may benefit from an exemption, allowing profits to be passed on to the ultimate shareholder without additional Maltese tax.

Malta Registered Companies

A Maltese company must have its financial statements audited at the end of each financial year. The audit should be carried out by an independent audit firm, and the final financial statements are approved and signed by the company’s directors and shareholders where required.

Once completed, the audited financial statements are filed with the Malta Business Registry and become available on the public registry. We may also assist with the provision of financial audit services.

It is also advisable for a Maltese company to maintain strong ties with Malta. This is commonly referred to as having substance. We offer different levels of substance support, from basic arrangements to more comprehensive solutions
